General appearance: depressed/tired
Face: symmetrical
Lips: Chapped
TMJ: Smooth
Glands: non-palpable
Salivary flow: inadequate
Floor of mouth: slight bilateral tori
Palate: Slight tori
Buccal mucosa: Bilateral Linea Alba
Communication
1. are you currently taking any medications after your recent heart attack?
-Yes, John responds, I am currently taking Motoprolol and i have noticed my taste is different and i sometimes get lesions in my mouth. I am also carrying nitroglycerin with me at all times and taking a baby aspirin once a day as a precautionary measurement.
2. Before we can do any treatment on you, i need to make sure we have a medical clearance from your physician.
-John responds, i have not recieved one from my doctor yet. I explained before we can perform treatment on him we need a clearance from his doctor, and i also informed him that we will way risk vs. benefit before performing treatment on him in the dentist office.
3. Have you taken all your medications prior to your appointment?
- John responds, yes i have been really good on making sure all my medications are taken everyday. I informed him on his future visits it would be good to bring any medications he is taking with him to the office.
4. Is he compliant and willing to improve his oral health?
-yes he is compliant and is going to make an appointment with his medical doctor as soon as possible to get the medical clearance.

Personal Reflection
I chose to do this mock case study on myocardial infarction because my father just recently had a heart attack. I also was interested in doing this topic because of the prevalence it has today. Myocardial infarctions are the leading cause of death after the age 40 and you have a higher risk of having one if there is a history in the family. By knowing these statistics and by having my father have to go through this i was intrigued to learn more about this condition.
